About the short film

Memories from the Holocaust have been portrayed in almost every medium, but rarely animation -- and never before by a child animator. Animated short film "INGRID PITT: BEYOND THE FOREST" is a cross-generational collaboration between a world-class animation master, two-time Academy Award-nominated Bill Plympton, and a first-time animator, 11-year-old artist Perry Chen. It is narrated by Ingrid Pitt herself.

Starting with Ingrid Pitt's poignant narration and Bill Plympton's 23 traditional pencil sketches as storyboard, award-winning artist and film critic Perry Chen brings this moving story and its contemporary implications alive. Read more

Events in May 2012

Screening at Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival in California with personal appearances by Perry Chen and Zhu Shen

We are pleased to announce that Ingrid Pitt: Beyond The Forest is an official selection of the Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival (LAJFF). From its beginning in 2006, the LAJFF has been building community awareness, appreciation and pride in the diversity of the Jewish people through film. Their films aren't just selected, they're chosen.

With the festival growing each year, they continue to offer affiliated Jews, unaffiliated Jews and non-Jews an opportunity to open up new dialogues, meet emerging filmmakers, Jewish scholars and celebrities and have a first look at the latest feature films, documentaries and shorts all dealing with Jewish thought, tradition, history, the Holocaust, Israel, and culture.

Ingrid Pitt: Beyond The Forest will be screening as part of the jTeenLA FilmFest program, which showcases a diverse range of student films representing the future generation of filmmakers from throughout Southern California. The program features an introduction by Halston Sage of Nickelodeon's "How to Rock!". There will also be a post-screening teen filmmaker panel and reception; animator Perry Chen and Co-Producer Zhu Shen will be in attendance.

Screening at Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film in Germany

We're honored that Ingrid Pitt: Beyond The Forest will also be screening at the Internationales Trickfilm Festival Stuttgart (ITFS) a/k/a Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film, one of the world's largest and most important festivals for animated film. The ITFS focuses on artistic animated film and the support of young talents.

According to their website, last year's festival attracted around 75,000 visitors and approximately 2,500 accredited guests. With its enthusiastic audiences, a unique location and numerous guests from all over the world, the ITFS is now a permanent fixture on the animation film scene and an outstanding cultural event in Germany.
